Discovery Term is a two-week opportunity for students in grades 9-11 to design their own journeys into areas of interest outside of the regular curriculum.   Freshman and junior students generate ideas for topics to investigate and partner with faculty members to design and develop immersive group learning experiences around those topics, while sophomores explore a new culture through a homestay abroad.   The goal of Discovery Term is to engage students in meaning-making inquiry, interaction, invention and reflection in a real-world context of their choosing.   In this session, participants will learn how we involve students in the design and implementation of Discovery Term courses, see examples of the innovative courses that have been created, and come away with a model for pursuing a similar program of authentic engagement at their own schools.
