The LiiNK (Let’s inspire innovation ‘N Kids) Project is an innovative research project that improves the culture of the school through implementing four 15 minute unstructured, outdoor play breaks into every school day plus four 15 minute character development lessons weekly without changing the amount of time the children go to school.  Academics, SEL, health indicators, and attentional focus have significantly improved in all of our intervention schools. There are 14 public schools implementing LiiNK in varying stages of the project. Little Elm ISD is one of the school districts involved in this project with great success in their first year of implementation. The Assistant Superintendent for Little Elm will join the Director of LiiNK for a teaching and debriefing session to introduce different concepts with the audience that are essential for academic success.  The research has shown in a very short period of time that younger children need a different type of day than what the traditional school provides. Children today are showing to be less physically, socially and emotionally healthy than ever before.  This may be the first generation to die before their parents because of these unhealthy practices in schools. This teaching session's goal is to identify ways other interested schools can shift their thinking and approach to learning. We will answer common school district questions through the eyes of Little Elm ISD and the LiiNK Director about the strengths and challenges of such a program. It will also focus on how to smoothly implement this innovative program into interested schools.
