Mascot Madness is actually a week long genetics project. In this session, students will be grouped and assigned specific parts of the overall project. Some factors will be predetermined because of restricted time. The end result is the crossing of mascots to produce offspring with different genotypes. This is a fun project that gets all students involved and teaches the basics of genetics. The different phases of the project gives each student an opportunity to "shine".....there's something for everybody. Daily grades are given for visible effort and teamwork. Each phase has a point value with the drawing of the offspring being the finale. After the models are completed, administration is invited to judge the Mascot Show where the most creative models receive fun awards. This project grows each year with new "tweeks" added to the challenge. A powerpoint describing each phase will be available to all.
